My Maserati Granturismo S had the most amazing exhaust I had ever had on a car. When I first got it I didn’t realise just how loud it was going to be. When I stopped for some pedestrians to cross the road at a crossing the bangs and pops from the exhaust were that loud that the pedestrians literally jumped off the crossing and I was left red faced with embarrassment.
This amazing sound was missing from the California so I decided to fit the Capristo exhaust silencer system that Scuderia Systems could supply. Before making the purchase I contacted my local dealer, Graypaul Birmingham, who advised that my car warranty would be at jeopardy if I fitted an aftermarket exhaust.
After reading about the law regarding fitting an aftermarket exhaust, I decided to write directly to Ferrari UK asking for clarification of the situation. I received a phone call response advising that a common sense approach would be taken and that fitting the exhaust system would not be a problem. Ferrari UK would contact Graypaul to confirm this and a note would be put against my car stating that it was not a problem having the Capristo system fitted. The proviso was that the exhaust would be swapped back to the original system before I sold the car on.
Shortly after the conversation, my dealer called and said that they had received a call from Ferrari UK and that they would now fit the exhaust for me. I placed my order with Scuderia Systems for the exhaust and it was fitted by Graypaul.
So after all the expense and hassle does the exhaust sound any better? Well yes it does, but it is not amazing. The exhaust is definitely louder and when in Sport mode the crackles and pops on the overrun do sound pretty good. Also, when accelerating hard and shifting up there is a great shotgun type bang. But, the sound is nowhere near as amazing as the Masterati Grantuismo exhaust.Read more
