Porsche 911 (991) Turbo Cabriolet

In the past I had never been a fan of the Porsche 911. But in recent years their interior and exterior styling had been taken to another level and whenever I saw a 911 on the road I thought they looked stunning.

After the sale of my Ferrari California, I immediately went to my local Porsche showroom to test drive a 911. Porsche take a different approach to test drives than many other manufacturers. Most of the time you are given a 20 – 30 minute test drive with the sales executive by your side. Not with Porsche. I was given the keys to a 911 Cabriolet for the day to go anywhere I wanted. After a thorough test drive I was very impressed. My main concern was getting my golf clubs in the car, but I worked out that the rear seats folded down and I was able to fit a set on this shelf. Under the front bonnet was ample space for luggage.

The new Turbo Cabriolet is one of the best resolved, and fastest, open-top supersports cars that (a lot of) money can buy.

After searching for some time, I eventually came across a demonstrator 911 (991) Turbo Cabriolet that was located in Edinburgh. It was a white car with black roof and came with the 20” turbos S wheels and the all-important Sports Chrono Pack, which added Porsche's "dynamic engine mounts". My local dealership was part of the same group and I agreed the sale with them, with the assurance that they would offer me the best price and that the car would have under 500 miles on the clock. It took a week or so for the car to be delivered to my local dealer and it looked amazing. With only 25 miles recorded, the car had basically sat in the Edinburgh dealerships showroom and had not been driven.

The 911 was an amazing car with fantastic speed and handling and although I had a great time with the car, it soon became apparent that it was not as practical as I had anticipated. Trying to load two sets of soaking wet golf clubs on the folded down rear seats in the pouring rain was the final nail in the 911’s coffin.
