BMW M4 Convertible

Before selling my Ferrari California I decided that I would like to purchase a brand new car. Ideally it would be a hard-top convertible and would have good luggage space for golf clubs and additional luggage. Cars in this market sector are very few but I came across the BMW M4 Convertible which had launched in September 2014.

After a test drive and further research on the BMW M4 Convertible I decided to order one in July 2015 for an October delivery. My car was very highly specified and was an ‘Individual’ specification car, due to the full leather with Sakhir stitching option I selected.

There are two major advantages to having a roofless BMW M4. One is the that you can be much closer to the rush of scenery when there’s only a windscreen. The other is that you can hear the magnificent, straight-six turbo’s exhalations via the quartet of pipes.

One of the options I selected were the carbon ceramic brakes, and these caused me great problems. After only 800 miles of ownership I had a problem with stones getting trapped between one of the brake calipers and the wheel rim. This scored a deep grove in the rim, damaging its integrity. This became an ongoing problem with BMW UK replacing a number of wheels and brake calipers. In the end I decided to sell the car as they could not fix the problem.

The BMW M4 Convertible specification was as follows:

  • Sakhir Orange Exterior
  • 19″ M Double-Spoke 437M Black and Silver
  • M Carbon Ceramic Brakes
  • Double Clutch Transmission
  • Adaptive Headlights
  • High-Beam Assist

I've had problems with the carbon ceramic brakes on my BMW M4 too and a wheel is damaged. My dealership have told me that BMW UK will not replace the wheel. Can you offer any advise?

I was initalially told by my BMW dealership that they would not replace the damaged wheels. I then wrote to the managing director of BMW UK and was then contacted by a complaints manager who helped me get the replacements. In the end BMW offered me a new 20" wheel that had just been launced, but I had to supply the tyres.
